Update 1.3 is out! Skunk, new blocks, control/physics adjustments, and a ton of other improvements!
/The latest update for Ultimate Sheep Raccoon comes directly from the top things the community has been requesting to improve the game, including blocks with more interactivity, control/physics improvements, additional scoring options, a revamped tutorial and a lot more. This isn’t the end though, we’ve already started work on the next update!
⚠️⚠️ Nintendo Players ⚠️⚠️
THIS UPDATE GOT STUCK IN CERTIFICATION ON SWITCH / SWITCH 2 AND WILL BE RELEASED ASAP. FOR NOW, CROSS-PLAY BETWEEN NITNENDO AND OTHER PLATFORMS WILL NOT WORK.
New Character — Skunk!!
You probably don’t want to be behind this one…
New Blocks
💣 Sea Mine — Bounce on the balloons to drop the mine which will bounce and roll around the level before exploding.
🔄 Rotating Terrain Block — It’s like terrain, but… it spins. This can be used to slow others down, or as a ramp to jump up to places you couldn’t reach otherwise, or as a platform to make a tough level easier.
⛓️ Chain Hazard — Goes back and forth and knocks you off your bike (or knocks you out in Hardcore Mode)
🛹 New Rail! — Another shape of rail, actually the original shaped rail and then somehow it got lost in the project… but it’s back!
Improved Bike Controls / Physics
We did a big pass on character movement to make racing feel more responsive and less janky:
No more wheels popping out sideways after turning around (check out this video on our Discord)
Made sure that a jump while falling or double jumping always gives upward lift
Fixed awkward landing animation cutoffs
Changed how coming down ramps and up ramps works slightly
Played with some physics values to make it feel better
New Scoring & Game Mode Improvements
🚫 “Too Easy, No Points” Option — in the game settings, turn this option on and players will not score points if everyone reaches the end. This is off by default, but a lot of Ultimate Chicken Horse players have asked for it so let’s see what you think!
You can see this in the lobby list if you’re looking at a match online, just like with Hardcode mode.
💀 Hardcore Mode Is Now Its Own Game Mode — this was a lobby setting since December but people didn’t see it, so now we made it its own “game mode” which turns the setting on by default.
You can also see this in the lobby list, with the little hardcore icon. This icon updates when a host changes the game rules.
🧮 Solo Points Added — if you’re the only player who finishes, you now get solo points!
Umbrella Power-Up Rebalanced
The umbrella was a little too good at letting players float across entire levels — so we’ve nerfed it! it now starts to fail after a given time, giving you less lift, then eventually closes by itself. Should be harder to jetpack or triple-jump into the sky and float across the whole level now.
Revamped Tutorial
The tutorial now teaches:
Different trick types, including wheelie
What Hardcore Mode is
Clearer feedback when changing controls
Quality of Life Improvements
Small changes that make a big difference:
Adjustable cursor speed
Windowed & borderless window modes added
No more slow smoothing in the level editor phase change (hold to build) and giving up — the circle in the UI fills up at a constant speed which causes less feeling of “but I held it long enough!”
Host player now gets a crown in lobbies (so everyone knows who can start the game)
After uploading a custom level, you’ll see the share code immediately
Bug Fixes — Important!
Missing UI bug, which we think causes the ghost bike issue where a player can control their fallen bike and never respawn — we made a lot of progress on this and it happens much less often, but still happens sometimes. We still have no idea why and can’t reliably reproduce the UI disappear bug, despite hours of QA… will continue trying.
Players no longer get stuck between cannons if they’re placed closely together
Achievement fixes (especially “Not That Way”)
Honey now sticks properly to moving objects (Cranes level objects, rotating terrain)
Game no longer crashes if a player joins as soon as a host leaves the lobby
Resetting in the tutorial doesn’t break the game anymore
Random level can no longer select locked levels
Fixed more issues with Simplified Chinese text
Ghost firework staying on-screen after placing and moving it in level editor mode
Tons of under-the-hood stability improvements
A bunch of UI and localization layout improvements
Refactored the block placement system to allow for more flexibility of how things can be placed
Go Try It Out!
We’ve been working to address your feedback and this update is the first one which really shows how your feedback shapes the game. Keep letting us know what you think and we’re already underway with our next update, lots to do!
See you on the track 🏁🐑🦝
